This installation responds to a question many museums face: how can art collections connect with younger audiences in meaningful and engaging ways? Collage Cuisine provides a dedicated space within the Museum of Arts Saint Gall where visitors can playfully curate their own artworks. Using an interface inspired by analog devices like modular synthesisers, participants select and combine visual elements into unique collages. The focus on tactile interaction avoids the detachment of touchscreens, encouraging a direct, personal experience with art. Since its launch in September 2023, the installation has become a permanent fixture in the museum’s exhibition.

The process began with months of collaboration with the museum team, ideating and prototyping different approaches before arriving at a functional design. We tested materiality, interaction mechanics, and long-term durability to ensure the installation could engage visitors over time. Based on visitor feedback, we continue to refine and expand the experience, building on insights that only emerge through sustained public use.
