This project started with a fascination for reverb and how every environment leaves its own signature on sound. We recorded impulse responses in different locations such as a tennis court, a church, and even a swimming pool. These recordings were then embedded into cubes, each one carrying the unique acoustic quality of its place. By scratching, touching or speaking into a cube, visitors experience its reverb through an ambisonic surround sound system and hear how the simulated spaces transform their sounds.
During the process we tested various microphones, from standard setups to underwater mics, and refined the recordings to make them believable without looping or distortion. We also experimented with cube designs, drawing inspiration from megaphones to make them feel approachable. The final installation combined crafted cubes with carefully polished audio, turning abstract acoustic research into a tangible, hands-on sound experience.
